How to Fax from Google Docs

If your document lives in Google Docs, you're just a PDF export away from faxing it. We see this workflow constantly with legal teams, HR departments, and healthcare offices that draft everything in Google Workspace.

Estimated time: 3 minutes · 4 steps

1

Export your Google Doc as a PDF

Open your document in Google Docs. Go to File > Download > PDF Document (.pdf). The file will save to your computer's Downloads folder. This preserves formatting, fonts, and images exactly as they appear on screen.

Tip: If your document has comments or suggestions, accept or resolve them first — they can sometimes appear in the exported PDF.

2

Open AvoFax and start a new fax

Log in at app.avofax.com or open the AvoFax mobile app. Tap or click Send Fax to open the fax composer. Enter the recipient's fax number including area code.

3

Upload the PDF

Drag the exported PDF into the upload area, or click to browse and select it from your Downloads folder. AvoFax shows you a preview of every page so you can verify the content before sending.

Tip: You can also use AvoFax's email-to-fax feature — just email the PDF to the fax number @fax.avofax.com if you'd rather stay in Gmail.

4

Send and confirm delivery

Review the preview, then hit Send. AvoFax transmits your document and sends you a delivery confirmation. The entire process from Google Docs to delivered fax typically takes under 3 minutes.

Common Questions

Can I fax a Google Sheet or Google Slides presentation?

Yes. The same workflow applies — export as PDF from the File > Download menu, then upload the PDF to AvoFax. Spreadsheets and slides both convert cleanly to fax format.

Will my Google Doc formatting be preserved?

Exporting to PDF locks in your formatting, so headers, tables, images, and fonts will look the same on the receiving fax machine. We recommend using standard fonts (Arial, Times New Roman) for the best compatibility with older fax machines.

Is there a Google Docs add-on for AvoFax?

Not yet, but it's on our roadmap. For now, the export-to-PDF workflow is fast and reliable. We'll announce any integrations on our blog.

Can I fax a shared Google Doc that someone else owns?

Yes, as long as you have view access to the document. You can export any Google Doc you can open as a PDF and fax it through AvoFax.
